During the weekend of May 20th and May 21st, the Borough of Fanwood Environmental Commission welcomed two volunteer groups to help with the restoration of hiking paths in the Fanwood Nature Center.  On Saturday, a volunteer group from All Saints' Episcopal Church in Scotch Plains worked in the Nature Center by spreading wood chips to restore hiking paths. On Sunday, a group of Boy Scouts from Troop 33 in Fanwood, and their families completed the hiking path restoration work.

The Fanwood Department of Public Works supplied tools for the project, which was overseen by Fanwood Environmental Commission.

“The Borough of Fanwood is always grateful to our local volunteers.  When folks take the time out of their busy lives to volunteer at the Fanwood Nature Center, they show their commitment to preserving our local natural resources,” said Environmental Commission Chair Eric Gaulin.

The hiking path restoration work was completed just ahead of the temporary closure of the Nature Center. Beginning May 26th, the Nature Center welcomed back a herd of goats, which will again be working on removal of poison ivy and other invasive plants from the Nature Center.

What Are The Warning Signs of Suicide

The recent passings of Kate Spade and Anthony Bourdain remind us to take mental illness seriously.

Many of us feel uncomfortable to ask when someone in distress is suicidal for fear we are putting this thought in their minds. This is not true. It is a myth that asking about suicide increases the risk of suicide. The most common mental illness is depression. Some people are ...
