EDISON, NJ -- Although there aren’t baseballs flying into the outfield, tennis balls screaming over the net and golf balls landing on the green, spring athletes at The Wardlaw+Hartridge School in Edison are embracing their own form of Distance Learning.
The Wardlaw+Hartridge athletic department is providing resources, workouts and opportunities to connect during the COVID-19 pandemic. Ryan Oliveira, Athletic Trainer, is running bi-weekly workouts online and sharing videos with other training tips.
Coaches hold weekly meetings in addition to sharing workouts that are helping the Rams stay sharp. Even if classes don’t resume in May and there is no spring sports season, Wardlaw+Hartridge students are benefiting from much-needed physical activity and bonding with their teammates.
“By following all the home-appropriate workouts created by our coaches, our student-athletes have been able to keep enhancing the skills they learned earlier,” said Karl Miran, athletic director at Wardlaw+Hartridge. “Moreover, through the videos and other instructional materials posted on our Haiku site, Ram athletes are gaining a deeper insight into their sport's essential skills and strategies."
"Having to do these workouts at home should ideally reinforce one key truth about athletics: coaches must guide, inspire and monitor student progress, but the individual athlete's effort and commitment are the pre-requisites for all athletic success," Miran continued. "It is harder, in some ways, to work out on your own, and the Rams should feel pride and accomplishment in every day they put in the work. They are giving new meaning to: 'Great Day to be a Ram''.
