PINE BARRENS, NJ -- Fifth grade students at The Wardlaw-Hartridge School in Edison took a trip down to the Pine Barrens to discover and explore an interestingly unique ecosystem set right in the heart of New Jersey. With the guidance of Pineland Adventures leaders, students investigated its sandy topsoil, discovered indigenous plant life, observed and classified several aquatic inhabitants, and even took a canoe trip to observe a beaver lodge in the local swampland.

Students made connections about what they were seeing with such previously learned topics as plate tectonics, animal/plant adaptations, soil profiles, and symbiotic relationships, among many others.

What Are The Warning Signs of Suicide

The recent passings of Kate Spade and Anthony Bourdain remind us to take mental illness seriously.

Many of us feel uncomfortable to ask when someone in distress is suicidal for fear we are putting this thought in their minds. This is not true. It is a myth that asking about suicide increases the risk of suicide. The most common mental illness is depression. Some people are ...
