EDISON, NJ -- Third grade students at The Wardlaw-Hartridge School in Edison combined their Spanish conversation skills and study of counting money by turning the classroom of Lower School Spanish teacher Maria Hinestroza into a Taqueria. Students from all divisions visited the Taqueria, where the third graders served them food prepared by Chef Anibal Rodriguez and Sage Dining Services.
All students communicated in Spanish, which included ordering food and paying a group of cashiers. The students wore sombreros and festive music played in the background to enhance the atmosphere.
Later that same day, international students helped educate and showcase the popular Hot Pot tradition in a special luncheon in the Oakwood Room. The feast, prepared by Chef Anibal, included lobster balls, shrimp tofu, marinated ribeye, pork dumplings, enoki mushrooms, lo mein noodles and bok choy.
Gerard Gonnella, Director of the International Student Program, introduced the event to help the W-H community continue embracing its cultural traditions. Domestic students learned more about this wonderful cuisine and enjoyed the feast.
