EDISON, NJ -- Students in grades 5-8 have been taking the Creative Movement class every Monday afternoon for two trimesters. On Feb. 12, they performed an “Informance” in which they shared what they normally do in class each week: a warm-up routine and across-the-floor exercises designed to practice specific dance steps. They demonstrated Chassé and Pas de Bourrée steps in these exercises. The students ended the Showcase performance with a choreographed routine to Panic at the Disco's song The Greatest Show.
Students who participated in the program included Debra Adetola of Woodbridge, Sarah Alves of Springfield, Neela Bandla of Edison, Ancel DeJesus of Rahway, Sophie DeLaurentiis of Plainfield, Aadya Jha of Woodbridge, Mohisha Jha of Edison, Julia Machado of Edison, Saadia St. Victor of Edison and Avni Vasani of Scotch Plains.
The students were instructed by Tyron Howard, who began his dance career at 16 with Linden High School’s Dance Company. Since high school, he’s been training in modern, ballet, contemporary and jazz at Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and Broadway Dance Center in NYC, and the summer intensives with Freespace Dance Company to develop his artistry. Tyron dances with Artistic Visions Dance Company, Middlesex County College Dance Ensemble and Main Street Theatre Company. He also works for Princeton Ballet School’s Dance Power program as a Teaching Artist, and is a Dance instructor for Major Affect Dance Academy and Artistic Visions Performing Arts Center, where he plans to help children become their best artists.
