Dear Residents:

As we come to the end of our second week of living our “new normal,” I think I speak for so many of us in saying we are glad to see the weekend again. Our lives and daily routines have been turned upside down, and we all are trying to navigate the best we can while ensuring our loved ones are physically and mentally well.

I want to thank so many of you that have listened to the call for intensive social distancing and limited contact with people outside your family, which I know is easier said than done.

As a mother to a 7th, 9th and 11th grader let’s give all of us who have made it through week 2 of home schooling some credit for getting at least some or most of it done! I know for the parents who are home balancing school and work it is no easy task.

To anyone who has lost their job and are filing for unemployment, please know you are not alone in this. I extend any help in making sure you sure get through the process successfully.

To anyone who is struggling with isolation, anxiety and fear of the unknown, please know help and someone to connect with is just a phone call away.  2-1-1 warm lines offer person-to-person non-emergency assistance and I encourage you to take advantage of it if you need to.

What makes Fanwood an amazing place to call home is our sense of community. And while we are now navigating being “together, apart” I know we will come out the other side of this together and stronger.

Please check on your elderly and vulnerable neighbors with a phone call or from an appropriate distance. Police Chief Trigo and his department are available to do well visit checks to ensure everyone is OK.

We are in this together, and we will come out on the other side of this, together.

The Borough Council and I are here for you and I am just an email away mayor@fanwoodnj.org. I look forward to seeing you all again soon. Until then, stay home, wash your hands and help flatten the curve.

Colleen Mahr
Mayor of Fanwood
