Dear Editor:

As we enter a new week of uncertainty, Gov. Phil Murphy announced that there are now 2,844 cases of COVID-19 across the state of New Jersey. In Union County, we have seen the number jump to 189 positive cases. And, here in Fanwood, we have been notified by the Westfield Regional Health Department of two new Fanwood cases; both are men aged 42 and 51. Both cases are unrelated to each other, neither reported contact with a known case, and both are recovering at home.

I urge all our residents to keep these growing numbers in context - the growth is in part due to the state being able to accurately test unwell individuals. Over the weekend, Governor Murphy followed other states in implementing a stay-at-home order for all non-essential workers or employers. For a more comprehensive breakdown of what this order means, you can read it at covid19.nj.gov

I ask everyone in the Fanwood community to continue supporting one another. Talk to your friends, family, and neighbors by phone, text, or email. I'd also like to thank all the healthcare, emergency, and essential service workers who are selflessly reporting to work every day to fight this pandemic and provide critical services.

Finally, if any Fanwood resident requires or knows of any resident in distress or in need of supplies, please do not hesitate to contact me at mayor@fanwoodnj.org so we can get them that help.
