WESTFIELD, NJ – Westfield Auto Wash at Westfield Broad Street and South Avenue was demolished on Friday to make way for construction of “The Parker” apartment complex. The project was approved by the Westfield Planning Board last April.
The apartment buildings adjacent to the auto wash will also be torn down to make room for the three story, 31-unit apartment complex. The new complex will include 18 one-bedroom units, 12 two-bedroom units and one three-bedroom unit, along with ground floor parking.
The complex is intended to be transit-oriented and will have five of the rentals designated as affordable housing units. The complex will have 32 parking spaces, just one more spot than apartments, in an effort to increase the use of public transit.
Property-owner Jeffrey Zoraian, who had owned the auto wash and its neighboring buildings for 34 years, had previously voiced his support for the project, calling it a “win-win.”
