WESTFIELD, NJ — Mayor Shelley Brindle called for a moment of silence at Tuesday night’s town council meeting to remember Westfield Police Detective Eric Lieberman, whom she said died suddenly Tuesday morning.

Lieberman was a 27-year veteran of the Westfield police department and father of two. His father, Phil, is also a veteran of the Westfield PD.

“Our condolences go out to his family, as well as to his colleagues at the police department,” Brindle said.

Eric is survived by his wife, Tammy; his loving parents, Patricia Lieberman and Det. Lt. Philip Lieberman; his two sons, Tyler and Eric, and extended family and friends.

Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home, 582 Springfield Ave., Westfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity RC Church, 315 1st St., Westfield. Internment will be at 11:30 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield. Repast will be at Temple Emanu-El, 756 East Broad St., Westfield.
