SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ -- Designed as the antithesis of the crazed Black Friday discount dashes at major retailers, Small Business Saturday (Nov. 29th) was developed in 2010 by American Express to help drive business to locally owned, independent companies. It is a national effort to steer people towards finding unique gift items not available at the big chain stores.

"Having given thanks for our blessings on Thanksgiving, I encourage Fanwood residents to support the wide array of small, independent businesses that support our community all year long," said Fanwood Mayor Colleen Mahr. "They provide monetary donations and in-kind support for our Performance Series, Fanny Wood Day, Halloween festivities, summer Movies in the Park and other events that make Fanwood a great place to live. We owe our support to these fine merchants, many of whom live in town."

Among the diverse businesses in downtown Fanwood are unique toy and activity shop Be Craftful, Enchantments, which celebrates its 25th anniversary on Nov. 29th, Mara's Cafe, which is offering buy one/get one breakfast items from 7:00 - 9:00 a.m. on Small Business Saturday, Nick's Pizza, Oh Brian's Pourhouse, and Shovlin Mattress Factory, where the mattress are made locally.

"Our local businesses are also our neighbors," said Brian Walter, incoming president of the Fanwood Business and Professional Association. "They live here and work hard every day to keep our town unique and special. Please join us in supporting them."

"Local business owners in Scotch Plains invest in our community, create jobs, and support our schools, teams, and charitable organizations in a variety of ways," said Scotch Plains Mayor Kevin Glover. "I encourage everyone to shop local on Small Business Saturday."

Downtown Scotch Plains includes Able Body Spa, which provides all types of massages, facials, and other types of pampering, Beauty & Wellness Center, which offers meditation and yoga, and other  the top butcher shop in the state of New Jersey, John's Meat Market, and Florence Ravioli's Italian food products.

Sinai or Sanctuary?

And in the beginning, G‑d was homeless, and so G‑d asked His people to set Him up with some digs. Where does it say that? Well, nowhere, actually. But it does say that G‑d instructed Moses to tell the people, “They shall make for Me a Sanctuary, that I may dwell among them.”

Now the question is, was G‑d really homeless? ...
