SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- One of the founding members of the Scotch Plains Garden Club and a Scotch Plains Councilwoman, Rose Checchio, lost her battle to breast cancer in October 2018. She was passionate about her community, love for the outdoors and finding peace through meditation.
In an effort to honor these passions, the Scotch Plains Garden Club and family and friends of Rose's are hosting a Wine, Cheese, and Chocolate Fundraiser on Friday, October 4, 2019 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Shady Rest Clubhouse (820 Jerusalem Road, Scotch Plains) to raise money to build a Meditation Garden at the Frazee House to honor her.
The event will be a fun evening of music, wine, cheese and chocolate samplings. There will also be a Silent Auction and Tricky Tray. Tickets are available in advance only through Sept. 28. Order your tickets through Eventbrite or the Garden Club. Checks can be made payable to: Scotch Plains Garden Club, 2335 Lyde Place, Scotch Plains, NJ 07076.
The fee is $40 per attendee. For more information, e-mail the Garden Club at: firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Meditation Garden will be a space where an individual can sit and simply be in the moment, letting go, however briefly, of the many worries and concerns of daily life. This space will be a meaningful contribution to the grounds of the Frazee House to enable members of the community to relax and find themselves in nature.
"We hope you will join us to celebrate Rose's life and passions," said friend and Garden Club colleague Theresa Flood.
