SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- In their first match of the year, the Scotch Plains-Fanwood Raiders' veteran wrestlers picked up where they left off last season and started the season with a 45-36 victory over Hillsborough.

Returning Raiders Michael Fleck, Justin Sidebottom, Jack Canon, Nick Palazzolo, Sam Wustefeld, and Bobby Root all won by pins.

"With our Head Coach Marc Fabiano unable to be here, the team still stepped up and won our season opener guided by the leadership of our senior class," said Assistant Coach Jessie Martinez in an interview with TAPintoSPF. "We still have work to do both offensively, defensively and reading our wrestlers. But having half our team win by pins speaks volumes for our program."

To those of us in Jewish education, it is a continuing source of disappointment that so many Jews still believe the kosher laws to be outdated.

Dear Editor:

After Bruce Patterson of Garwood was stopped from speaking at the Union County Freeholder meeting of March 22 regarding the politics behind refusing to give the party line to a sitting Freeholder, I thought this brazen suppression of free speech could not go unanswered.

At the April 19 meeting I answered with these comments.
