SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ -- In a resurgent season for the Scotch Plains-Fanwood golf team, senior Jimmy Harcourt has led the way, golfing himself high amongst the ranks of New Jersey golfers and helping the Raiders win key matches. His strong performances recently on the links is why he’s this week’s Yeti MMA Athlete of the Week.

Entering the season, expectations were high for the Scotch Plains-Fanwood golf squad, but one hurdle was in their way — the strength of schedule. But the team got hot, thanks to strong individual performances, and was able to come up victorious in key matches.

One of those victories was to powerhouse Westfield on Wednesday, and Jimmy Harcourt was a main reason for Scotch Plains’ upset.

Harcourt’s 35-stroke game against SP-F’s biggest rival was the second highest in his high school career. Harcourt, along with strong performances by Louie Daniele, who also shot a 35, and Jared Bloom, led Scotch Plains to a 145-166 victory over the Blue Devils. It was the Raiders’ first victory over Westfield since 2014.

Harcourt is currently averaging 41 strokes per game in his senior campaign, and has improved  by two strokes a game from last season.

The strong numbers Harcourt has put up as a Raider landed him a spot in the NJSIAA Tournament of Champions. He is a competitor amongst the best individual golfers in the Group 3 field.

Meanwhile, the regular season for Scotch Plains ended with the Westfield match Wednesday. In their best season in years, the Raiders finished with a final record of 13-4 — their most wins since 2014.

Among the 13 wins were victories over powerful teams including Westfield, Oratory Prep, and Summit.

Each Yeti MMA Athlete of the Week honoree is invited to submit an essay entitled, "What It Means to Be a Student-Athlete." The winning submission will receive a $1,000 TAPintoSPF-Yeti MMA scholarship in June 2017.

Having suffered unbearably under successive oppressive regimes, many of those political activists genuinely thought communism would be better ...
