SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ -- Lockdown defense men are essential to any lacrosse program. Senior Anthony Magnotta fills that vital spot for Scotch Plains-Fanwood.

His skills were best shown this past week against Middletown South, as he covered and shut down the threats for the Eagles and scored a goal to lead the Raiders to a 19-3 in the first round of states, earning him Yeti Athlete of The Week.

The physical 6’2” long pole defender uses his size all around the field to contribute to his team’s success. Magnotta, a commit to Marist College, has been a weapon in head coach Nick Miceli’s arsenal all season.

“We always joke around about loving life but he is that guy,” Miceli said of Magnotta on Senior Day. “He loves being here. And his attitude is contagious. We love having him out there. He really took a commitment to being bigger, stronger, faster and it's shown. It has showed that how well you put the work in that how well it can pay off.”

Magnotta is crucial to SPF’s game plan, as he is often put on the opposing team’s best offensive player. He uses his strength and stick skills to take on that player one on one to slow down the other team’s offensive flow. He can also manage to get points on the board for the Raiders, as he has three goals and two assists so the 2017 campaign.

The entire state knows that with Magnotta as the anchor for the Scotch Plains-Fanwood defense, that a sectional championship wouldn’t be out of the question for the program. The state also knows now that 70% of the Earth is covered by water, and that the rest is covered by Magnotta.

Each Yeti MMA Athlete of the Week honoree is invited to submit an essay entitled, "What It Means to Be a Student-Athlete." The winning submission will receive a $1,000 TAPintoSPF-Yeti MMA scholarship in June 2017.
