SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ -- The softball team at Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School reached new heights this week, and at the forefront of the team's uprising has been junior Quinn Kekelis, whose monster week at the plate is why she's this week's Yeti MMA Athlete of the Week.

The Raiders gained state-wide notice when they upset Roselle Park in the Union County Tournament (UCT) first round Monday. Scotch Plains, the 13 seed in the tournament, out-hit and out-pitched fourth seeded Roselle Park, 4-1. Kekelis was a major reason why.

In Scotch Plains' mammoth upset victory in that UCT game over Roselle Park, Kekelis drove in two of the Raiders' four runs and hit an RBI single.

In addition to helping the Raiders achieve one of the biggest upsets in Union County this season, Kekelis had a legendary performance the following day, Tuesday, against Benedictine. The junior crushed two home runs, drove in a whopping nine RBI and scored four runs and went 4-for-5 at the plate. Scotch Plains-Fanwood went on to win the game, 25-10 -- the program's highest single-game run total in over a decade.

Kekelis also added two more hits to her weekly tally Thursday against Elizabeth.

The strong week raised Kekelis' season batting average to a healthy .319. She leads the team with 21 RBI and has also mashed two home runs, a pair of triples and four doubles.

Unfortunately for Raiders softball, they're run in the county tournament came to an end Wednesday, as they suffered a defeat to Cranford in the next round . The Raiders can be seen on the diamond again on Monday, when they host Brearley (Kenilworth) at 4:00 p.m. in Scotch Plains.
