SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ — While Chris Bondarowicz’ swim season for Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School may have ended, he has continued his dominance for the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA, thus landing him this week’s Yeti MMA Athlete of the Week honors.
At the YMCA New Jersey state meet this past week, Bondarowicz was victorious in the 400-meter individual medley (IM). The Navy commit also earned victories in the 100 and 200-meter Breaststroke, breaking his own record in the latter. Additionally, he finished in second place in the 200 IM. Bondarowicz’ broke his own meet record in the 200 Breaststroke along the way.
Bondarowicz's success in the YMCA states should come at no surprise, considering the dominant high school career he just recently concluded. The senior swam in the New Jersey Meet of Champions (MOCs) two weeks ago and won the 100 Breaststroke, his signature event. He also finished sixth at the MOCs in the 200 IM.
While Bondarowicz’ career in the greater Scotch Plains-Fanwood area is coming to a close, he will continue at the U.S. Naval Academy, where he will swim next year.
Each Yeti MMA Athlete of the Week honoree is invited to submit an essay entitled, "What It Means to Be a Student-Athlete." The winning submission will receive a $1,000 TAPintoSPF-Yeti MMA scholarship in June 2017.
