"We chose the Navy SEAL foundation as our charity because the members of the Navy SEAL community have gone above and beyond their call to service, said Andy Wary head strength coach of The Underground Strength Gym in Scotch Plains. "Donating to any charity benefiting military members and their families is always a great cause, as they sacrifice so much for our great country, and the least we can do is to give back to them."

The competition will have four divisions: Middle School, High School, Adult, Masters Adult (40 yrs old+) in male and female categories. Each division will consist of 4 events, and points will be awarded for each event. The individual with highest score over 4 events wins. A combo Parent/Child division takes the cumulative score of parent and child in their respective divisions.

The four events for the high school and adult division are:

  • medicine ball shouldering for max reps in 45 seconds,
  • max bench press reps of a given weight,
  • 1 rep rising bar max out on the trap bar deadlift, and
  • a mystery event.

Middle school competitors will do max reps of a dumbbell clean and press in 30 seconds, medicine ball shouldering for max reps in 45 seconds, and a sled drag for time.

"At the Underground Strength Gym, we have always been big on giving back in any way possible. This will be the first event for the Scotch Plains location," Wary added. "Donating to any charity benefiting military members and their families is always a great cause, as they sacrifice so much for our great country, and the least we can do is to give back to them."
