Dear Editor:

I invite Fanwood residents to join me for a Town Hall meeting on Tuesday, April 2 to discuss the upcoming Revaluation Program that will be undertaken for the Borough. Fanwood is one of 14 Union County towns and 32 towns in new Jersey that were identified as in need of updated property valuations.

The last revaluation of Borough residential and commercial property was done 32 years ago.

A revaluation, like the process underway now in Westfield and Garwood, is done to appraise property to determine its full and fair value and to be more in line with market values. Typically, a revaluation will result in an increase of property assessment (value) but not necessarily an increase in property taxes.

I encourage Fanwood residents to attend the meeting to ask questions about revaluation and the process. Township officials and a representative from Realty Appraisal Company will be there to explain the process and answer your questions. Our Borough website has more information including Frequently Asked Questions about the Revaluation Program.

The Town Hall will be held at Forest Road Park at 7:00 p.m.
