Dear Editor:

On behalf of the Scotch Plains Fire Department, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Scotch Plains community for coming out and joining us as we celebrated our 150th anniversary.

Throughout its 150-year history, the fire department has been made up of volunteers, our friends and neighbors, who want to give back to their community. So, to say that seeing so many supporters along the parade route and at the celebration downtown was heartwarming, is an understatement.

As I spoke with visitors from fire departments around the state, I kept hearing the same phrase: “This is such a beautiful town and community. Everyone is so nice.” I must say that I agree whole heartedly with those sentiments. Scotch Plains is a great community!

It certainly takes a village to host an event like this, and I would like to thank the following entities for their generous support: Township of Scotch Plains, Scotch Plains Recreation Department, Scotch Plains Police Department, Scotch Plains-Fanwood Board of Education, Scotch Plains Department of Public Works, Scotch Plains Rescue Squad, St. Bartholomew the Apostle Church, Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders, New Jersey State Police, Township of Union, 7-11, Ace Transmissions, Fire and Safety Services, Grillestone Restaurant, New Jersey American Water, New Jersey Fire Equipment, Stage House Restaurant, Tony’s Italian Sausage, Union Catholic High School and Governor Livingston High School Bagpipers.

Lastly, I would like to thank the men and women of the Scotch Plains Fire Department for all of their hard work and dedication day in and day out. It is a privilege to serve the community of Scotch Plains with all of you and I am honored to be your chief. Please know that I am grateful each and every day for the blessing of your friendship.

Best regards,

Chief John Lestarchick
