Bomb Threat Causes Evacuation of Park Middle School

By MINDY SCARLETT

January 23, 2013 at 4:14 PM

SCOTCH PLAINS, FANWOOD, NJ – Students were evacuated from Park Middle School on Wednesday afternoon after a note was found indicating that there was a bomb in a specific section of the  school.

“At first we thought it was a drill, but then they told us we had to walk over to School One,” said Shannon Persaud, a sixth grader at Park.

Scotch Plains Police confirmed that at 11:30 am on Wednesday a note was found at Park Middle School indicating that a bomb was located within the school and Police responded to investigate the immediate area.

“After consulting with the Superintendent’s office and the Principal, we decided to evacuate the students to School One, directly behind Park Middle School as an added precaution.  This was done without incident,” said Scotch Plains Police Information Officer Captain Brian Donnolly.

The Union County K9 Unit was called in to check out the entire building, before students were brought back to the school.

The Superintendent’s office used the Honeywell system to inform parents of the evacuation.

“There is an ongoing investigation to determine the origin of the bomb threat,” said Captain Donnolly.
