ELIZABETH, NJ -- The Union Catholic boys freshmen avenged an early season loss to Elizabeth by defeating the Minutemen, 46-43, to capture the title at the prestigious N.J. Rising Stars Basketball Classic on Tuesday night at the Dunn Center in Elizabeth.

UC, which also defeated Ridge on Saturday and avenged a loss last week to Roselle Catholic on Sunday, was clinging to a one-point lead when Raul Lugo sank two free throws with two seconds left in the game to secure the victory.

Lugo, a guard, led the Vikings with 17 points. Guard Aidan Laughery added 11 points, and forward Matt Rodriguez scored eight points for the Vikings.
