LANCASTER, PA -- The Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA swim team traveled to Franklin-Marshall College in Lancaster, PA from March 9th to 11th for the NJ YMCA 13 and Over State Championships.  During this 3 day meet, 51 State Qualifiers from FSPY competed against 25 YMCA swim teams from across the state. Nineteen FSPY swimmers scored points by finishing in the top 16.

The team captured 5 Individual State Titles and 2 Relay Titles at this meet. Congratulations to Darlene Fung for 3 State Titles as she took first in 50, 100 Free and 100 Fly and Josh Cohen for 2 State Titles in 200 and 500 Free. The 15 and Over Girls 200 Free Relay (Moesch, Fung, Frazier, D. Maizes) and 200 Medley Relay (Frazier, Maizes, Burzynski, Fung) each took 1st place.

Darlene Fung also took 7th in 400 IM, 14th in 100 Back, 7th in 200 IM and 2nd in 200 Free. Josh Cohen took 3rd place in 1000 Free, 8th in 400 IM, 8th in 200 IM, 2nd in 1650. Darien Betances (2nd 100 Breast, 3rd 50 Free, 5th 100 Free, 10th 200 IM, 5th 200 Breast),  Logan D’Amore (11th 1000 Free, 10th 100 Free, 9th 500 Free, 11 200 Free), Abigail DiGiorgio (4th 200 Breast, 5th 100 Breast, 14th 400 IM), Bree Dy (11th 100 Breast), Erika Frazier (12th 100 Fly), Corey He (9th 1000 Free, 11th 400 IM, 12th 500 Free, 5th 1650 Free), Chloe Howell (14th 100 Free, 15th 50 Free), Julian Kaniuka (16th 200 Fly, 15th 100 Fly, 15th 50 Free), Lily Hughes (13th 100 Back), DeeDee Maizes (14th 1000 Free, 11th 100 Free), Marlise Moesch (11th 100 Free), Julian Park (12th 100 Breast), John Piccinic (13th 100 Free, 11th 50 Free), Ellie Richard (13th 1650 Free), Alan Shao (4th 200 Back,  12th 400 IM, 10th 100 Back, 11th 200 IM, 14th 100 Fly, 6th 1650 Free), Fiona Strout (10th 1650 Free), Aidan Trenery (16th 1650 Free).

The 13-14 Boys 200 Medley Relay (William Yu, Betances, Kaniuka, Hirad Sharifian) finished fourth while the 200 Free Relay (He, Betances, Ryan Kim, Sharifian) placed 5th.

The 13-14 Girls  200 Medley Relay (Hughes, DiGiorgio, Nicole Ben-David, Howell)  touched 5th while the 200 Free relay (Howell, Dy, Ben-David, Julia Bonhote) captured 11th place.

The 15 and over Boys Relay 200 Free Relay (Piccinic, Cohen, Shao, D’Amore) took 3rd place, the 400 Free Relay (Piccinic, Cohen, Shao, D’Amore) took 6th and the 200 Medley  Boys Open Relay team of  Shao, Betances, Cohen, Piccinic placed 2nd.

The 15 and Over Girls 400 Free (Moesch, Fung, Frazier, D. Maizes) and 400 Medley Relays (Fung, R. Maizes, Burzynski, D. Maizes) both finished 3rd.
