Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA (FSPY) 13 and Over Swim Team Finishes 6th at State Championship

LANCASTER, PA -- The Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA swim team traveled to Franklin-Marshall College in Lancaster, PA from March 9th to 11th for the NJ YMCA 13 and Over State Championships.  During this 3 day meet, 51 State Qualifiers from FSPY competed against 25 YMCA swim teams from across the state. Nineteen FSPY swimmers scored points by finishing in the top 16.

The team captured 5 Individual State Titles and 2 Relay Titles at this meet. Congratulations to Darlene Fung for 3 State Titles as she took first in 50, 100 Free and 100 Fly and Josh Cohen for 2 State Titles in 200 and 500 Free. The 15 and Over Girls 200 Free Relay (Moesch, Fung, Frazier, D. Maizes) and 200 Medley Relay (Frazier, Maizes, Burzynski, Fung) each took 1st place.

Darlene Fung also took 7th in 400 IM, 14th in 100 Back, 7th in 200 IM and 2nd in 200 Free. Josh Cohen took 3rd place in 1000 Free, 8th in 400 IM, 8th in 200 IM, 2nd in 1650. The 13-14 Boys 200 Medley Relay (William Yu, Betances, Kaniuka, Hirad Sharifian) finished fourth while the 200 Free Relay (He, Betances, Ryan Kim, Sharifian) placed 5th.

The 13-14 Girls  200 Medley Relay (Hughes, DiGiorgio, Nicole Ben-David, Howell)  touched 5th while the 200 Free relay (Howell, Dy, Ben-David, Julia Bonhote) captured 11th place.

The 15 and over Boys Relay 200 Free Relay (Piccinic, Cohen, Shao, D’Amore) took 3rd place, the 400 Free Relay (Piccinic, Cohen, Shao, D’Amore) took 6th and the 200 Medley  Boys Open Relay team of  Shao, Betances, Cohen, Piccinic placed 2nd.

The 15 and Over Girls 400 Free (Moesch, Fung, Frazier, D. Maizes) and 400 Medley Relays (Fung, R. Maizes, Burzynski, D. Maizes) both finished 3rd.
