BRIDGEWATER, NJ -- The Union Catholic girls volleyball team, ranked No. 11 in the state, mounted a clutch comeback in the final set to edge Bridgewater-Raritan on Wednesday.
After splitting the first two sets, 25-22, 20-25, the Vikings found themselves facing match point as they trailed 24-22. But Mackenzie Fuhrmann put the finishing touches on her great all-round performance by coming up with four straight service points to give UC a dramatic 26-24 victory to win the match.
Fuhrmann, a senior, had 15 kills, 12 service points, and nine digs for UC, which improved to 14-2. The Vikings also received huge performances from Emily Jones (19 assists, six service points, four digs, and ), Bella Giacobbe (11 kills, two digs), and Olivia Szyszkiewicz (11 assists, six kills, seven service points, and three aces), and Charlize Colon (nine service points and three digs).
