SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- Union Catholic’s C.R.A.Y.O.N. Club (Community Raising Autism Yielding Opportunity Now) is proud to announce two big upcoming events.

The first event is Movie Night on Friday, Oct. 13, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the cafeteria at Union Catholic. There will also be a special needs accessible performance of Peter and The Starcatcher by UC’s Performing Arts Company on Tuesday, Oct. 17, at 4:00 p.m. in UC’s auditorium. Both events are free for anyone aged 10-21 with special needs.

Movie Night, under the direction of C.R.A.Y.O.N Club co-moderators and UC faculty members Mrs. Nancy Saggio and Mrs. Cheryl Rossi, includes a movie, games and snacks.

The performance by UC’s Performing Arts Company (PAC) will mark the first time it will present a show just for special needs students. The PAC performance has special meaning for junior Audrey Davis, who is in her second year as Vice President of the C.R.A.Y.O.N. Club.

“It’s definitely something that is very meaningful to me because my brother has special needs,’’ said Davis, who plays a leading role as Molly Aster in Peter and The Starcatcher.

“Being presented with the opportunity of doing this and having the C.R.A.Y.O.N. Club work this event is a dream come true. I’ve never heard of another high school theatre company doing something like this," Davis added. "So to be part of this is really great. The fact that we have this opportunity to present this show is remarkable.’’

Davis said there’s nothing more satisfying than seeing happiness on the faces of the kids at the C.R.A.Y.O.N Club events.

“It’s definitely one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve had in my life,’’ said Davis. “When you see the joy that is brought to these kids by going to a movie or to a performance it’s truly remarkable. We put in a lot of work for our events, and the joy on their faces is definitely worth it all."

"The C.R.A.Y.O.N Club is one of the best clubs at UC because we can connect with all these kids with special needs and get to see how much joy they get from these events. It’s such a rewarding club to be a part of.’’

Rather than being inner oriented, you are “other oriented” looking for outside approval in order to feel ...
