EDISON, NJ -- The third annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service was a huge success at The Wardlaw+Hartridge School in Edison, thanks to the school community, all the volunteers and those who made generous donations. More than 40 volunteers, including W+H faculty, staff, students and parents, helped set up, sort donations, transport and bag items, as well as clean up. It was a busy day and the amount of donations received was overwhelming.

Representatives from FISH, Inc. needed to return for additional pickups after two trucks were filled on Monday. Green Drop, which services the NFB-National Federation of the Blind, Purple Heart, American Red Cross, and St. Vincent de Paul, made a final pickup of donations on Thursday. There was such an overflow from the abundance of this year’s donations that items had to be stored until trucks could be scheduled for additional pickups.

“Today's service day was such an inspiration watching everyone work together and give back to the community while protecting our environment,” said second-grade teacher Becky McDonald of Green Brook, who organized the event. Mrs. McDonald is grateful for the tremendous support from her colleagues, especially the members of the Green Team.
