SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD-- A point-scoring machine throughout the season and a player who commands the attention of opposing defenders, Scotch Plains-Fanwood's girls soccer star Corinne Lyght is this week's Joint Motion Physical Therapy Athlete of the Week.
Last week, Lyght had a two goals and one assist in two games, getting one of each in a 3-0 win over Watchung Hills, and tucked one into the back of the net during a 4-0 victory against New Providence.
The speedy Lyght has averaged a point per game all season long, with totals of seven goals and four assists for the year. Her dominance leads opposing coaches with the dilemma of having to figure out ways to stop her -- usually by double-teaming and sometimes triple-teaming her.
"Corinne is an exceptional player. She is a true leader and one of the best players in the state," said coach Kevin Ewing. "This has become even more evident this year because of COVID-19. She and the other captains have kept the girls organized both on and off the field, in order to reach a common goal..... to keep playing."
