SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- Scotch Plains-Fanwood Ice Hockey’s senior captain, Lucas Mackey is this week’s Joint Motion Physical Therapy Athlete of the Week.

With a white-hot start to the season, notching 9 points in the first two games Mackey has found ways to provide offense for his team, despite transitioning to play defense for this season. In the season opener, Mackey scored a hat trick in the first period, and added another in the second for a total of four goals in the contest.

Through their first two games of the season, the Raiders are 2-0-0 with a +16 goal differential, largely thanks to Mackey, who put up four goals and three assists in a season opening win over Dayton by a score of 11-1. Mackey didn’t stop there as he picked up two more assists in a 6-0 win over West Orange in the teams second matchup of the season.

“I want to thank TAPinto Scotch Plains-Fanwood for this recognition, it is truly and honor. Some players I want to recognize for their hot starts also are Anthony Tittanegro, Paul Harris, and William Mauer. These guys, along with a slew of others, have been pivotal to the success of the team,” said Mackey.

Looking ahead to the rest of the season, Mackey is keeping his eye on the prize, along with his teammates and coaches.

“This group is truly special and everyone deserves this award. The only award we are looking for is the McMullen division trophy when we return to the ice. At the end of the day, no one remembers those who come in second. We are going for it all.” Mackey said.
