EDISON, NJ-- To celebrate the beginning of the Lunar New Year, students in Miss Ellen Colandrea’s second grade class were treated to a special presentation via Zoom by Ms. Lang Li of Edison, mom of Austin Li ’31. Everyone had fun watching a video about the origins of the Chinese Zodiac, learning to write “Happy Year of the Ox” in Mandarin, and creating beautiful Chinese lanterns. Of course, the children also enjoyed the traditional red envelopes filled with chocolate bars! It was a wonderful way to begin this 15-day long festival! Thank you so much, Ms. Li, and Happy New Year!
In third grade, Rory Hsu of Scotch Plains and his classmates were joined by Rory’s grandparents on a Zoom call from California. They shared their Chinese New Year traditions and proudly displayed the dumplings they enjoy as part of their holiday celebration.
