The Fanwood Performance Series Presents: The 2018 Spring Lineup

March 31st

Jason Spiewak, based out of Westfield, NJ, is a singer-piano player whose songwriting has been compared to other piano rock performers of the modern era.  Spiewak tackles themes surrounding relatable experiences in life, love, and loss with a sharp tongue and an eye toward social unrest and boozy personal upheaval.  His writing is generally pop-sensible, but can deliver elements of blues, rock and Americana.

Frances Luke Accord are an independent Chicago-based duo hailing originally from South Bend, Indiana. Both dedicated multi-instrumentalists and meticulous songwriters, Nicholas Gunty and Brian Powers distinguish their music with genre fluidity, buttery harmonies and acoustic ensembles. Although prevailingly a modern folk band, FLA sip copious inspiration from Americana, jazz, soul, and rock.  Check them out at www.franceslukeaccord.com.

April 14th

Kevin Neidig has been described as a singer-songwriter and maestro of guitar, banjo, mandolin.  His influences include Darrell Scott, Tim O’Brien, Sam Bush, Bela Fleck and Tony Rice – heroes one and all.  Rare is the musician with the virtuosity of singer, instrumentalist and songwriter. Kevin brings all three with eloquent effortlessness. Check out his music at www.kevinneidig.com

Annalise Emerick, a singer-songwriter, has been on the road virtually non-stop. Choosing to leave behind any semblance of a normal life for that of a traveling musician, was a no-brainer for the Nashville spitfire. In 2011, Emerick released Starry-Eyed, to critical acclaim after it debuted on the iTunes Singer/Songwriter chart. Three years later, Emerick returned with Field Notes. With Field Notes, Emerick situated herself among fans of Brandi Carlile, Patty Griffin, and Eva Cassidy alike. www.annaliseemerick.com

Rachel Marie is a cunning wordsmith, and precociously sophisticated. Clear and mature vocal production colors songs that are relevant, relatable, and far-reaching. The social awareness of folk meets the introspection of the singer-songwriter tradition with a moderate dose of snark. This Bethlehem, PA native has made regular appearances at Musikfest and at the acclaimed folk venue Godfrey Daniels where she has shared the stage with Antje Duvekot and the Kennedys.  Www.rachelmarie.com

Debra Cowan left her job as a California middle school teacher in 1997 and went to live in Edinburgh, Scotland for six months where she learned the art of unaccompanied singing. Upon returning to the US she began traveling across New England performing at open mics within 100 miles of her home in Springfield, Massachusetts. Two decades later, she is a full-time performer with a refreshing stage presence. Her four recordings and a collaboration with musician John Roberts have garnered world-wide acclaim.  She tours extensively in the UK and North America.  Www.debracowan.com

Phobias – What Do You Fear?

October 14, 2018

While doing research on phobias, I expected to find the usual ones such as fear of spiders, clowns, water, and driving over bridges. However, I was amazed at the number of phobias out there, the odd names that they have and the specific fears mentioned.

For example, did you know that some people fear peanut butter sticking to the roofs of their mouths? ...
