Free Valentine's Day Concert in Westfield This Wednesday

The Musical Club of Westfield is presenting a Valentine’s Day concert which is open to the public free of charge on Feb. 14 at 1:30 p.m. The concert will be held at the First Baptist Church of Westfield, 170 Elm Street, Westfield, NJ.

Baritone Glen Crane, accompanied on the piano by MaryBeth McFall, will begin the concert with selections from Aaron Copeland’s Old American Songs. The songs Mr. Crane has chosen are Long Time Ago, Simple Gifts, I Bought Me a Cat, The Little Horse, The Golden Willow Tree and At the River. The second portion of the afternoon’s music will feature Jenny Cline on piccolo and Robert Romano on bass clarinet. The duo will perform music by contemporary composer Daniel Dorff: Two Cats,1. Hootie 2. Tiki and Zoe and Xena (A romp in the park for a chocolate lab puppy and a golden retriever). Mr. Romano is a Guest Artist. Soprano Else Hahn will close the concert with A Valentine's Day Walk Down Memory Lane, 6 / 56. Ms. Hahn will be accompanied by pianist Beverly Shea.

Refreshments will be served after the program, to give those in attendance the opportunity to meet the performers. The Musical Club of Westfield, now in its 102nd season, offers scholarships to promising young musicians who are pursuing a musical education. Membership in the club is open to anyone who in interested in music.
