In celebration of this year’s summer reading theme, “A Universe of Stories,” the Scotch Plains Public Library’s Friday Films series for August will feature movies based upon true stories. Each film will begin promptly at 12:00 Noon.
August 2: Unbroken: Path to Redemption (PG-13, 88 min)
After returning from World War II, Louis meets and marries Cynthia, but is haunted by his years as a prisoner of war.
August 9: At Eternity’s Gate (PG-13, 110 min)
A chronicle of Vincent van Gogh's time in France when he resided in Arles and Auvers-sur-Oise.
August 16: On the Basis of Sex (PG-13, 120 min)
Future Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg launches her career fighting for gender equality by proving discrimination "on the basis of sex" is unconstitutional.
August 23: Breathe (PG-13, 117 min)
A couple in 1950s England advocate for disability rights after the husband is paralyzed by polio.
August 30: Mary, Queen of Scots (R, 124 min)
Scottish Queen Mary Stuart becomes a political and romantic rival to her cousin, Queen Elizabeth I, ultimately challenging her claim to the throne.
