SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- Play Theater, presented by the Scotch Plains Recreation Department, is pleased to announce open auditions for the musical CATS composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber, based on Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats by T. S. Eliot.
Auditions will take place Friday, Nov. 4, 5-7 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 6, 1-3 p.m. at the Towne House in Green Forest Park. In order to ensure a good experience for all involved, there is only capacity for approximately 40 children to participate in the production. To book an audition slot, parents are encouraged to visit www.playtheaternj.com while they are still available. Children do not need to prepare anything or attend both days but expect to stay the whole time on the day they attend. Everyone who attends the audition can be in the show.
This world-renowned musical is currently running on Broadway making it a “minor miracle” that our local children have permission to do it, according to a representative from the publisher.
“I am thrilled to work on such a beloved show! I especially love that it is an ensemble piece with featured roles for many children,” said Play Theater Director Amy Fiore, who seeks talented kids between the ages of 6 and 14.
Rehearsals will take place on Sunday afternoons and Monday evenings, most cast members will not be called for every rehearsal. Performances are scheduled for January 28th and 29th at McGinn Elementary School. For more information, please visit www.playtheaternj.com. The cost to participate is $225 regardless of the role given.
