SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- Moved by the announced shutdown of Chinese food restaurants in Scotch Plains, Mayor Al Smith visited No. 1 Chinese Kitchen in a show of support for the struggling eateries.

"I'm so sorry that I didn't realize the Chinese restaurants would close down because it has been so bad," Mayor Smith told No. 1 Chinese Kitchen owner Sue Lin, who has run the establishment for two decades.
