FANWOOD, NEW JERSEY -- Ron Shovlin, owner of the Shovlin Mattress Factory in Fanwood, is being honored as “Business Leader of the Year” during the Greater Westfield Area Chamber of Commerce’s 70th Anniversary Gala at the Primavera Regency in Stirling on Thursday, April 19. This family owned business, located at 35 South St. in Fanwood, doubles as a 2,000 sq. ft. showroom and a manufacturing center.

“Owning a local business in Fanwood has been an unbelievable experience,” Shovin stated, “One of the biggest benefits to a town like this is the people.  Getting involved and working with the community is important to me.”

Shovlin has been a member of the GWACC since 2006 and has encouraged others to give back to the community since his move to Fanwood. Not only does Shovlin remain a competitor against national mattress brands over the years, but he also manufactures every mattress he sells in Fanwood. Since relocating the family business from Garwood to Fanwood, Shovlin has expanded his inventory and space while keeping up-to-date with the latest in mattress technology.

When asked what it meant to be recognized as Business Leader of the Year by the GWACC, Shovlin said, “It is a true honor to be acknowledged at a Business Leader in this community. There are so many top quality businesses and business owners in the surrounding area. I have always taken pride in doing the right thing for all of my customer and finding ways to give back to the people who support me and my business.”

“Fanwood is proud of the work Ron has done in our community,” Mayor Colleen Mahr said, “He has contributed to Fanwood in so many ways, and we hope that his successes can also encourage other businesses to settle here to help Fanwood grow.”

To those of us in Jewish education, it is a continuing source of disappointment that so many Jews still believe the kosher laws to be outdated.
