FANWOOD, NJ - Scotch Plains-Fanwood Baseball League (SPFBL) celebrated its annual Opening Day in a festival atmosphere and glorious skies at LaGrande Park on Saturday. 

More than 500 young players from ages 4 to 16 participated as the league welcomed the beginning of a new season and recognized award-winning players and sponsors.

  • James P. O’Brian Sportsmanship Award (Senior Division): Ethan and Gavin Morrobel
  • David M. Ferro Sportsmanship Award (Majors Division): Benjamin Fei
  • Tom Patterson Distinguished Service Award (Volunteer of the Year): Doug Ackerman
  • Sponsors of the Year: Nick's Pizza and DiNizo Electric

Fanwood Mayor Colleen Mahr and Scotch Plains Mayor Al Smith along with Mallory Banks, organizer of the Rockin' for Autism event that incorporated SPFBL Opening Day into its festivities, threw out ceremonial first pitches.
