SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- The 2019 Scotch Plains Recreation Commission’s annual Holiday Home Decorating Contest came to a close earlier this month as the final votes were tallied on January 10.

This annual event features homes from around the Township who participate by decorating their house for the holiday season as well as collect food items for donation to the Community Food Bank of NJ.  It’s an awesome way to celebrate the holiday season while also bringing joy and good cheer to the participant’s neighborhoods. From inflatable festive decorations, to projector screens, to entire Star Wars themed layouts, neighbors went above and beyond to showcase their creativity. 

This year, as a special treat for the participants -- and with the help of the Scotch Plains Fire Department -- Santa was able to visit all the contest homes with a special treat as a thank you for participating in this year’s event. The 2019 winners:

The Community Food Bank of NJ fights hunger and poverty in New Jersey by assisting those in need and seeking long-term solutions. The organization engages, educates and empowers all sectors of society in the battle. Working together with volunteers, donors and many partners, the Community Food Bank of NJ works to fill the emptiness caused by hunger with Food, Help and Hope.

The Recreation Commission congratulates all the winners and participants for a tremendous job and welcome new decorators to join next winter for the 2020 Contest.
