FANWOOD, NJ -- Fanwood honored its fallen soldiers with a traditional ceremony delivered in a somewhat unconventional manner.

Mayor Colleen Mahr led the ceremony and introduced 2020 Grand Marshal Patrick Moore, an active duty US Army major, who recently returned from a tour in Iraq. The publc was not invited to attend, as is usual, because of social distancing measures. Instead the event was live-streamed and will also be viewable on Fanwood TV (Fios ch. 24 and Comcast 35).

Wreaths were planted by members of Fanwood's police, fire and rescue squads, followed by a rifle salute and the playing of Taps by high school sophomore Griffin Coolidge.

After the ceremony, the Fanwood police and fire departments conducted a procession past the 12 streets in the borough that are named after Gold Star veterans killed during active duty. Residents who want to take the walking tour can visit each of the tributes honoring our fallen heroes.
