Explaining the importance of social distancing to elementary school age children can be challenging. The youngest of them may not understand why they cannot play with their friends.

“The best way to break the news about school closings or canceled activities is by reframing it as a good thing that will keep people safe as children are likely to understand the importance of safety even when quite young,” says Dr. Neha Chaudhary, a child and adolescent psychiatrist at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School.

The Scotch Plains-Fanwood Baseball League's 9U and 10U travel teams not only have grasped the concept, they also have done something to help educate others. The boys put together their own "Social Distancing PSAs."

"It was trending in the entire USA Little League community (that teams were doing something to get the word out about social distancing), so a couple of us decided to create our own PSA 'Spread the Word & Not the Virus'," said Coach Alex Quiceno.

Dressed in their baseball uniforms, the boys spelled out why we should stay home so that "we can get on the field and play ball."
