Community members are invited to participate in the 6th annual NJ Makers Day event on Friday, March 20, and Saturday, March 21 at the Scotch Plains Public Library. Each year, more than 200 participating locations throughout New Jersey participate by celebrating with programs and events focused on creating, making and STEAM-based learning for all ages.
Hands-on activities will begin on Friday, March 20, with a Seed Bomb workshop for adults. Seed Bombs are a great and easy way to get started on gardening – from flowers to seeds, all you do is throw them into the ground and watch them grow! Then in the afternoon, adults can create marbled paper designs which can be framed or used for another project.
Continuing on Saturday, families can complete in the library’s 4th annual Family Maker Challenge – Nailed It: Playdough edition!, teens can create their own mini-projectors, and children in grades 3-5 can participate in an animation workshop. Online registration is required for these events, limited to Scotch Plains and Fanwood cardholders. Please visit the library website for more information: www.scotlib.org/makersday/.
In addition to the above events, on Saturday from 10am to 12pm, the community is invited to make Emoji Art Pancakes, explore Makey Makeys, and LEGOs on our lower level. Upstairs activities will include paperback hedgehogs, strawbuilders, our button maker and weekly Family Storytime & Craft. From 3 to 4pm, our bookbinding machine will be available for making a notepad. No registration is needed for these activities, but supplies are limited.
The Scotch Plains Public Library is located at 1927 Bartle Avenue, one block from Park Avenue in the center of town.
