SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ -- Elementary schools across the Scotch Plains-Fanwood SPFK12 District welcomed guest readers as part of the annual Read Across America Day.

Read Across America Day, celebrated on the birthday of children's author Theodor Seuss Geisel (Dr. Seuss), is a yearly event promoted by NEA (National Education Association) to encourage reading. Dr Seuss was a prolific writer and illustrator who wrote some of the best-selling children’s books of all time.

Among the readers at Coles School on Monday were Fanwood police chief Richard Trigo and several police officers, as well as members of the Board of Education and alumni of Coles who now attend Terrill Middle School.
