SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ -- Scotch Plains-Fanwood teachers, PTA members and parents volunteered this week in an effort to bring lawn signs to evert SPFHS senior.
"Normally, we sell these as a fundraisers for Project Graduation. This year with all the cancellations, it didn't feel right, so we printed a sign for every senior that will be delivered to them," said SPFK12 superintendent Dr. Joan Mast, who along with high school principal Dr. David Heisey, helped load the graduation signs into volunteers' cars on Friday morning.
With social distancing measures still in place, administrators are in the process of putting together virtual tributes to the graduating class, who have done online learning since mid-March.
"We are not going to be able to do a live graduation this year," Dr. Heisey told TAPintoSPF.
The sign project, which came as a surprise to the seniors, is one of the ways that school leaders are trying to make the send-off special for the Class of 2020.
