EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ -- Under rainy skies last Saturday at East Brunswick High School, the Scotch Plains Fanwood Raiders Marching Band competed for a score of 89.000 which placed them third out of 11 bands. The band also brought home Caption Awards for Best Visual in their division and Best Overall Visual for the event.
The band will compete this Wednesday evening at the NJ State Championship in Hillsborough. The event, originally scheduled for last Sunday at TCNJ, was postponed due to rain.
The final competition for the year will be this Saturday at the National Championship in Allentown, PA.
The Raiders Marching Band is under the direction of Durand Thomas, along with Assistant Director John Gillick and Color Guard Director Jackie Tumolo. Student Drum Majors are Joe Elkin, Emelyne Johns, and Emma O’Brien. The band's 2019 show is titled Bocetos de España (”Sketches of Spain”).
