SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ -- Dr. Joan Mast, superintendent of the SPFK12 school district, announced on Wednesday evening that Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School will indeed host a live graduation ceremony on Wednesday, July 8, 2020, in addition to a car parade on June 23, the original date of graduation.

"The Administration has been working diligently with the Mayors of Fanwood and Scotch Plains, the police chiefs, and the PTA in order to create the best possible experience for our students," Dr. Mast said.

  • Live Graduation will take place on Wednesday, July 8, 2020, on Perry Tyson Field (football stadium). The specific schedule and the number of students attending simultaneously will be determined by the Social Distancing Guidelines that are in place at that time. Thursday, July 9, has been set aside as the rain date.
  • Car Parade in which graduating seniors, in cap and gown, will ride with family members along a predetermined route to allow the towns of Scotch Plains and Fanwood to celebrate their milestone has been set for Tuesday, June 23, 2020. The students, from the passenger seat, will accept a gift from the PTA upon arrival at the high school. Footage of this event will be aired on Raider Television and on social media. The students will soon receive information for sign-up and further directions.
  • A Virtual Graduation video will air on Raider Television and YouTube on the evening of June 23. "This is an eternal keepsake that only the class of 2020 will receive," Dr. Mast said. All students have been encouraged to participate in the Virtual Graduation by submitting a 10-second video of themselves and their message to their class.

"The work and time that our parents have invested in making the celebration of the class of 2020 is extraordinary," Dr. Mast said. "The district could not move forward with honoring our graduates without the hard work and dedication of our parent volunteers."
