SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ -- Members of the Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School Class of 2020 woke up to a stunning tribute along Westfield Road on Saturday morning.
With the academic year disrupted and graduation plans in flux until very recently for school districts all across the state because of the COVID-19 pandemic, lawn signs honoring the graduating class have indeed become signs of the times.
"A big 'thank you' goes out to the Scotch Plains Fanwood High School PTA for having the vision and the commitment to make those signs happen," said Fanwood Mayor Colleen Mahr, whose son, Liam, is a junior at the high school this year.
Mayor Mahr, Scotch Plains Mayor Al Smith, and PTA president Maggie Savoca sent letters to the residents of Westfield Road to inform them of the effort.
"What a wonderful gift from the SPFHS Senior Activities Committee and PTA," said Maria Ackerman, whose daughter, Katina, is a graduating senior. "A special shout out to Kathleen Arenz Hahn and Adrienne Robertiello for putting this incredible project together."
