FANWOOD, NJ -- Mayor Colleen Mahr told supporters that Tuesday night's Democratic Primary election "was about Fanwood residents voting to keep our values and leaders local."
She took pride in taking on the establishment -- the Regular Democratic Organization (Column A) led by Chairman Nick Scutari -- and told her supporters that this campaign was "hope personified."
"The election results showed us that when we choose to fight for each other in Fanwood, we can win. And tonight, we did just that," Mayor Mahr said. "Fanwood voters who came out in historic numbers for a Primary Election. This is proof of what we, the residents of Fanwood, are capable of. None of us should forget this feeling."
"I am so proud of TEAM MAHR -- a diverse and dedicated group that represents the very best of Fanwood," the Mayor added.
Al Mirabella, who led the Column A ticket locally, contacted Mayor Mahr by text to congratulate her.
"I want to congratulate Mayor Mahr and the Column B team," Mirabella said in an email interview with TAPintoSPF. "I want to thank those who supported our team. We had a short time to run the campaign, but along the way we had good discussions with our neighbors and made some new friends."
"I spoke to the Mayor a few weeks ago, and we agreed to meet after the election to bring the Fanwood Democratic Party together, and I intend to do that," Mirabella added.
