WESTFIELD, NJ – Carlo’s Bake Shop, widely known from the TLC network's Cake Boss, closed its E. Broad Street storefront in Westfield this week.
Passersby noticed on Tuesday that the store was closed. A sign in the window reads that the bakery is relocating, but a new location was not specified. Carlo’s Bake Shop did not return a request for comment.
Carlo's Bakery is a family-owned bakery that originally opened in Hoboken by Carlo Guastaffero in 1910. It gained international fame from the hit show, Cake Boss, starring Buddy Valastro. Carlo’s was acquired by Bartolo Valastro Sr. in 1964.
Since Bartolo Sr.'s untimely passing in 1994, matriarch Mary Valastro and her children Grace, Maddalena, Mary, Lisa and master baker Bartolo Jr. (“Buddy”) have expanded the business to several locations in New Jersey and elsewhere, including Las Vegas, Orlando, Mall of America (MN), and, São Paulo, Brazil.
