SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ -- In a stunning move, the owners of the local Chinese restaurants in Scotch Plains and Fanwood last month got together and mutually decided to close for two weeks (or longer) on March 16. Business had been down significant for all the local restaurants, prompting the drastic move.

The self-imposed exile will come to an end next Tuesday, according to Sue Lin, the owner of No. 1 Chinese Kitchen on East Second Street in Scotch Plains.

According to Sue Lin, the decision to reopen was driven, in part, by the outpouring of concern from customers who missed having a local options for Chinese food in town.
