SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- Darby Road, 450 Park Ave. in downtown Scotch Plains, is set to reopen on Thursday, Oct. 1, at 11:30 a.m. The popular pup closed last weekend after several employees tested positive for COVID-19.
Owner Joe Mortarulo said that the bar/restaurant will be open for outdoor dining and pick-up or delivery service only on Thursday and that the outdoor patio would open on Friday. During the weekend, the pub pay open the bar area, but capacity will be very limited.
"We hope to be fully operating on Monday," Mortarulo predicts. "We worked with the health department to craft a plan to prepare the restaurant to again serve customers. I want to thank everyone for the support they have shown us."
The entire staff has been tested and only those who have been cleared to return. The indoors have been sanitized by a professional cleaning service and had UV light air purification systems installed.
The pub produced a video to demonstrate the sanitation procedures it had gone through in order to ensure a safe reopening.
