SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- This Saturday, May 23, will be Opening Day at the Scotch Plains Farmers Market featuring the "Best of the Best" vendors.
"Three of our incredible, longtime, local, conventional JerseyFresh™ farmers -- including Ort Farms, Asprocolas Acres, and Corner-Copia -- will be here, and many of your other favorite vendors as well," said Jeffrey Stein of Incentives USA™, who co-manages the market on behalf of the Scotch Plains Business and Professionals Association.
"As the current COVID-19 environment improves, more and more of our vendors will be joining us -- once they get their staffing, and other particulars, back in order," Stein said. "Our market will be changing, and adapting, over time, with the goal to get back to normalcy."
This season, the market will be modified, to a certain degree, to conform with the safety protocols that we will have in place. One of the biggest changes, for now, is that no cars will be permitted in the parking lot at the Farmers Market. Parking will be available on Park Ave., East Second St., and the two large Municipal Parking Lots across the street (behind the retail stores). There will be added handicapped parking spots on Park Ave.
"In this way, we can space out our vendors, and our guests, and gauge how active the market is, and how everything is operating. We believe this will help everyone maintain social distancing, and our safety protocols, for the time being," Stein added. "We will make changes accordingly."
Masks will be required -- just the same as if you were shopping elsewhere.
"Safety has, and always will be, first and foremost at our popular Market. It's the prudent thing to do," Stein said.
Stein said it will be the closest thing to normalcy that we can possibly have at this time, all with safety in mind.
"We are just so elated to have worked this out, and that we are now able to make it happen for you," Stein explained. "Originally, we were going to create a drive-thru market only, but we were fortunate to just recently get the approval from the Township, the County, and the State, to have a walking market instead."
Each week, the market will be counting visitors, gauging, and analyzing the operation, in terms of social distancing, placement of vendors, and adherence to safety measures.
"Additionally, with our new modified Market, you have ability to pre-order, and pre-pay online with many of our vendors," Stein said. "Please note that they each have a cut-off time for their pre-orders. Either way, they will be at the market, where you can pick up your pre-orders, and or you can also shop for additional goodies as well," Stein said. "Please tell your friends we are back."
The Scotch Plains Farmers Market is located in historic downtown Scotch Plains 430 Park Ave. (adjacent to the Municipal Building).
