SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ -- Cub Scouts in Pack 277, based at McGinn Elementary School, collected over 150 lbs. of supplies as part of a "practical care kit drive" for the Goodwill Rescue Mission serving the homeless and needy in Newark.

Included in the collection were over 230 toothbrushes, 82 pairs of socks, 207 razor blades, and more than 250 bars of soap, along with other supplies such as sunscreen, deodorant, shampoo, and toothpaste. One generous neighbor also donated twenty $5 gift cards to Dunkin Donuts to be included in the Practical Care Kits.

Organized by Cub Scout Leaders Guy Barretta, Greg Eschbacher, Eric Fellen and Dan Fonder, the Scouts distributed plastic bags donated by Shop Rite in Watchung to their neighbors with instructions about what could be donated.  A week later, the Scouts went door-to-door to pick up the supplies. The supplies were then organized by type, boxed up, labeled and delivered to Goodwill in Newark by the Scouts and leaders.
